Chicago

With over 40 years in Chicago, no other auction house has served as a resource to the arts community in the Midwest longer than Sotheby’s. The team, led by Gary Metzner, is here to assist with your auction and private sale needs across all categories of fine and decorative art, as well as jewelry, wine, rare books and collectibles.

Sotheby’s Chicago has had the honor of being entrusted with many prestigious collections throughout the Midwest, including those belonging to Judy Neisser, Jerome Stone, Elaine Frank, and Marjorie Fisher.

Sotheby’s Chicago is proud to be an active part of the local arts community. We assist with de-accessions for institutions such as the Art Institute of Chicago and the Museum of Contemporary Art. We also partner with these institutions and others including the Driehaus Museum; Museum of Contemporary Photography, the Block Museum of Art, the Smart Museum of Art, and the DePaul Art Museum to sponsor exhibitions and conduct charity auctions. Members of the Sotheby’s team also serve on museum and institution boards such as those of the DePaul Art Museum; Driehaus Museum; the Auxiliary Board at the Art Institute; and ChiArts (The Chicago High School for the Arts).

Sotheby’s is able to provide a full range of appraisal services and support for professional advisors and fiduciaries to suit their clients’ needs. Our international specialists frequently visit Chicago and we are happy to assist in arranging an appointment.
