Condition
The following condition report has been provided by Kirsten Younger of Kirsten Younger Paintings Restoration, 212-288-4370, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The painting is in very good condition overall. The panel has a very slight convex warp and it is good condition and is stable. The finely painted architectural details including the bricks and the roof tiles are in beautiful condition. The plants in the window boxes, painted with delicate impasto, are intact. The figures and draperies are in good state overall with a small paint loss in the red jacket and some thinness that is retouched. The blue sky with delicate clouds that reflect the yellow light is in good state overall with a few small fills and numerous scattered areas of thinness that are retouched. The cobblestones are well preserved overall with some small scattered retouches. There is some slight thinness in the dark glazes in a few of the dark windows and on the shadowed facades of the houses on the left with small areas of retouching and there is a small filled area between the dark windows near the right edge. The overall balance and tone of the composition remains beautifully preserved.
