Catalogue Note
A very similiar view of Mecca was taken in the 1880s by 'Abd al-Ghaffar, the Meccan physician (see Snouck Hurgronje, Bilder aus Mekka, Leiden 1889, plate III). The view is apparently taken from Jabal Abu Qubays and is looking to the west.
