Condition
In overall good condition. The canvas is lined, the paint surface is slightly dirty and the varnish is slightly discoloured. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals retouchings along the left, right and lower margins, including to a surface scratch 4cm. in from the centre left margin, measuring approx. 20 cm. long, as well as retouchings scattered in the curtains in the background. There are small areas of retouching in the sitter's face and chest, and a number scattered throughout her dress, with a more concentrated area, measuring 6 x 10 cm. in her proper right cuff. There is also retouching scattered along two horizontal lines of a stretcher mark through the centre of the canvas.
