• lever escapement quarter repeating movement, bi-metallic compensation balance, two hammers repeating on two gongs • blue enamel dial, white enamel chapter ring with painted blue Arabic numerals, gilt beaded minute divisions, inner track with rope accent, tri-color gold automata scene depicting two cherubs striking bells above • 18k pink gold case, coin edged case band, engine turned covers, case back opens to reveal rope accented open cuvette revealing a chased erotic scene over blue enamel ground • case signed
Condition
The movement is running at time of cataloguing, however it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement.
Case in overall fair condition with heavy wear, scuffing and light scratches consistent with age and use. Wear most evident in the faded engine turning pattern. Slide on case band appears loose and is worn with some material warping on the bracing handle. Indentation to the case band at 7. Some light oxidation throughout. Crystal made of pliable material. Dial in overall good condition. Oxidation to the gilt areas, especially the hands. Case back interior with Erotic Scene is most likely a later addition. blue enamel is rough with some areas of pitting. When erotic insert is installed, the repeater does not chime or function. The repeater chimes in phase when the insert is removed from the top of the movement. Insert secured by three screws. Movement in good condition.
