Provenance
Commissioned directly from the artist by the present owner, 1969
Condition
Overall in very good condition. The wood surfaces present with some surface scratches, some minor edge abrasions and light surface soiling consistent with age and gentle use. The top with a few very thin hairline cracks, stable and visible in the catalogue illustration, adjacent to the butterfly. The edge of the top with two minor areas of infill, one to the front and the other one adjacent to the butterfly, both stable and likely original. The base with a very thin vertical hairline crack, stable. When viewed in person, the top presents with extraordinary figuring and rich hues. A superb example of Nakashima's work, acquired directly from the artist by the current owner.
