Catalogue Note
A blue and white washbasin attributed as 'probably Bristol' and similarly painted around the sides with geometric designs is illustrated in John C. Austin, British Delft at Williamsburg, p. 239, cat. no. 580, where the author suggests that these bowls, distinguished from others by their lack of decoration on the exterior, were probably used in washstands.
