Condition
The following condition report is provided by Hamish Dewar who is an external specialist and not an employee of Sotheby's: The panel has a wooden support on the reverse. There are two splits visible from the reverse and evidence of old woodworm. The front of the panel has two vertical splits visible one of which runs the length of the panel. The surface is uneven with surface scratches and discoloured retouchings are visible in natural light. There is a fine pattern of craquelure mostly visible in the figure which is stable. Inspection under ultra-violet light shows an opaque varnish layer and scattered spots and lines of retouchings throughout. Overall the painting is in fair condition.
