The picture surface is thinly painted and there are scattered areas of pigment separation. Under UV light, there are two small dots of retouching in the background at center right, to the right of the young boys face. Additionally, there are a few small scattered dots in the background, behind the rabbis head at the upper left corner; two dots of retouching to his beard; and two dots of retouching to the left part of his shawl. Some of the pigments remain active, especially red.
