Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. There is evidence of light wear and handling along the edges. The colors are bright, fresh and clean. There are some white media accretions at the lower left and upper right corners and along the top edge towards the left, likely from the time of execution. Under close inspection, a few pinpoint and unobtrusive media accretions are visible and there is a pinpoint drip accretion to the left of the figure’s eye. Under Ultraviolet light inspection the aforementioned pinpoint drip fluoresces lightly but does not appear to be the result of restoration, and there are areas along the top of the figure's face and in her chin that also fluoresce lightly but do not appear to the result of restoration. Framed.

"Well, you paint this kind of picture and you want to paint...it seems like why can't you paint a figurative picture that's as big as like a big abstract picture. Then it becomes like, well, if you paint it life-size, it's like little figures on a big canvas, you know. So I decided the hell with it; let's try something else. Like those old ones. At one point I said...well, basically the idea of the scale is Velasquez, the proportion of the figure to the outside perimeter...so you wonder what the possibilities are of going into space with volumes."
