Partially laid down to mount. The sheet has suffered somewhat. There are a number of losses and tears to the sheet - some made up with red chalk - visible all along the lower margin. Catalogue Note

This drawing can be compared stylistically with one by Spadaro in the Kupfertichkabinett, Berlin, representing an allegorical scene with the figure of Time. In the Berlin drawing, the central figure is reminiscent of the correspondingly placed figure in our drawing, not only in the stance but in the way the pen and ink is applied to render form.  It is not possible to link our study directly with one of Spadaro's painted works, but the composition is not dissimilar to a painting of Bathsheba at her Bath, a collaborative project that saw Spadaro working together with Viviano Codazzi and Artemisia Gentileschi; this oil is now in The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota.2
