Description
- Madonna and Child
- oil on panel
Condition
The panel has been set into a wooden support, flush with the surface of the panel, which on the reverse is formed of 4 wooden batons. The dimensions of the whole are 51.5 by 39 cm.; 20 1/4 by 15 3/8 in. There is one unrestored horizontal split running the length of the panel 14 cm. from the right margin, and some minor splits running only a few cm. from the upper and lower edges. The varnish is discoloured; inspection under ultra violet light reveals some localised retouchings mainly focused in the figure of the Christ child, an area in the lower left background. The face of the Madonna is quite well preserved with only one or two spot retouchings.
Offered in a modern tabernacle frame in good condition.
