Condition

The canvas is unlined. A repair to a horizontal tear measuring approximately 4 by 7 cm is visible below the elbow of the Madonna. There is also a repaired tear measuring 6 by 9 cm to the right of the Madonna's neck. The paint has thinned somewhat in this area. Inspection under UV light reveals scattered retouchings to the head and upper torso of the Christ Child, as well as three small retouchings on the Madonna's arm and two just above her shoulder. A cloudy varnish is visible throughout. The work is offered in a gilt frame with moulding, with some losses to the moulding.
