Condition

The canvas is unlined. As visible in the catalogue illustration there are a number of unrepaired tears with associated paint flaking, notably a circa 6cm tear in the left of her head and ear, a circa 8cm horizontal tear in the red background to the right, and a number of more minor tears. Under ultra-violet light the varnish layers fluoresce quite unevenly however there do not appear to be any notable signs of retouching. The appearance of the work would be greatly enhanced with cleaning and conservation. Presented in a decorative gilt frame with floral motifs, with a number of ornament losses.
