Bruges School, circa 1500

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This work has not been recently restored. The panel is flat. The reverse has an attractive cradle, which is still actively supporting the paint layer. There is one very small crack in the lower right, and slight losses in the lower left. The painting itself is dirty. The retouches have discolored. There may be an original join running down the left side of the work, through the right wrist of Christ. There are restorations applied around this join, but the remainder of the picture is very healthy. Although retouching is present in the sky and in the side of the throne on the right side, the condition is generally very encouraging.
