Catalogue Note

With a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives and a presentation case.

Introduced in 1932, Ref. 96 is unquestionably Patek Philippe's most legendary design. Made in numerous versions and in all case materials, its production lasted more than 40 years.  Production evolved into 4 series with the following characteristics:

- 1st series: in production until 1935, with cal. 12’’’ movement
- 2nd series: in production from 1935 to 1953, with cal. 12 120 movement
- 3rd series: started in 1950, with cal. 12 400 movement
- 4th series: started in 1960, with cal. 27 AM 400 movement

Amongst all materials, the white gold example is by far the rarest.  The Ref. 96 offered in this sale belongs to the 3rd series and only the 10th example that has ever appeared publicly in auctions.  Fresh to the market, the present watch is a real treasure for aficionado who appreciate the subtle and elegant design.
