Description

  • French Workbox 10cm. high, 21cm. wide, 15cm. deep; 4in., 8¼in., 6in. Snuffbox 10.5cm. by 9.5cm; 4¼in.,3¾in.
comprising; a French sycamore sarcophagus workbox, decorated with bright cut steel nails the interior with fitted tray and inset mirror, early 19th century; a George III painted papier-mâché oval tea caddy, in the manner of Henry Clay, circa 1790; a small tortoiseshell veneered rectangular ballot box, with borders of scalloped silver metal, two holes to the lid and a division to the interior, 18th century; a George III carved fruitwood snuff box, circa 1760, of scallop-shape with a relief carved armorial to the lid; a painted lacquered spa box, 19th century, the pale green ground decorated with pastoral vignettes with gilt-heightened borders; a French green stained ivory and tortoiseshell cigarette box, circa 1900, the lid with an inlaid cartouche engraved 'Donne Par L'Amite'; a Russian gilt and blue painted papier-mâché cigarette box, circa 1900, the interior with a gilt Cyrillic inscription (7)

An attractive and academic group. Placed by the Duchess together. With old marks, losses and some boxes with evidence of worm.
