Winsor McCay, ou la grâce absolue ! Sa ligne graphique est d’une rare élégance. Et comme celle d’Hergé, on peut l’agrandir à l’infini, ou presque, le trait est toujours là, noble, pur. Même le grand Moebius aurait pu se réclamer de quelques-unes des cases de cette planche (cases 3 et 6, par exemple), une planche à ranger parmi les plus belles de la série. McCay, indémodable et visionnaire, a su créer avec Little Nemo la quintessence d’une bande dessinée onirique qui parle à tous les âges. Il a aussi un sens inné de l’architecture de la planche comme en témoigne cette alternance entre images carrées, dans la moitié supérieure, et grandes cases verticales, en bas.

Winsor McCay, or absolute grace! His graphic line has a rare elegance. And like Hergé’s line, it can be enlarged indefinitely, or nearly, and its noble, pure character remains. Even the great Moebius could have laid claim to some of the panels on this page (panels 3 and 6, for example), which ranks among the most beautiful in this series. McCay, timeless and visionary, conceived in Little Nemo in Slumberland the epitome of a dream in comics form that speaks to all ages. He also has an innate sense of the architecture of the page, as evidenced by how he alternates between square images in the upper half, and large vertical panels below.
