Condition

These gold-toned prints are in generally excellent condition. On most of the prints, there are scattered deposits of retouching, often heavy and likely original, over flaws in the negative. The negative number has also been retouched out of each print. The mounts are worn, with creasing to the corners and light soiling. The stamp on the reverse of each print is as follows: 'PHOTOGRAPH BY EUGENE ATGET PRINTED BY BERENICE ABBOTT _______ [signed by Berenice Abbott in ink] ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.' The reverse of each mount is sequentially stamped from 1-20. There is foxing on the portfolio, and the extremities are rubbed and worn. There is minor soiling to the front matter. When examined under ultraviolet light, these prints may fluoresce slightly. According to Lee Witkin and Barbara London's 'The Photograph Collector's Guide,' the first 50 in the edition of 100 were printed in 1956, and the remaining were printed in the early 1970s. The plates are as follows: St. Cloud 'Nenuphars' Men's Fashions Eclipse, 1911 Paris Interior 'Pompe Funebre (1e Classe),' 1910 Carrousel 'Marchand Abat-Jours' 'Rue St. Rustique,' March 1922 Maison Close Bar de Cabaret Street Paver 'Cour, Rue de Valence' Ragpickers' Hut Mannequin Street Musicians 'Boucherie, Rue Christine' 'Faucheurs, Somme' Environs of Paris 'Masque Antique'
