Catalogue Note
Wilmotte records a monogram on the barrel in the lower left corner which is no longer visible. The composition follows that of Teniers' original today in the Galleria Doria Pamphilij in Rome, which is indistinctly dated (inv. no. 350, reproduced in E.A. Safarik and G. Torselli, La Galleria Doria Pamphilij a Roma, Rome 1982, p. 200, fig. 348), although Sestieri (see Literature) pondered whether the Coppée version was not of better quality.
