Condition
Very good condition overall with some fine firing cracks visible at several places, a few minor chips to the edges of the drapery and some inclusions. The wooden base with remains of black laquer.

Catalogue Note
Elève de Jean-Baptiste d'Huez, Jean-Louis Couasnon travaille pour les Menus Plaisirs en 1777, pour lesquels il réalise des cartons peints de Louis XVI et Marie-Antoinette. Il expose au Salon de la Correspondance en 1779 et en 1785, et aux Salons du Louvre de 1795 en 1802. Couasnon excelle dans l'art du portrait, notamment d'enfants, dont il rend les expressions avec une grande douceur et ressemblance, non sans rappeler les oeuvres de Houdon. En 1784, il sculpte le buste de la jeune Alexandrine-Emilie Brongniart (1780-1847), fille de l'architecte Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart (Louvre (RF.2822), le portrait de Charlotte Cruchy en 1775 (musée Carnavalet) et celui de François-Benoît-Fortuné de Pluvié, dit Guibert (1779-1799), âgée de cinq ans, au musée du Louvre (RF 2039).
