Description

the rounded sides rising from a straight foot to an everted rim, the exterior decorated with two scaly five-clawed dragons in mutual pursuit of a ‘flaming pearl’ above tumultuous waves, all against a green ground, the recessed base inscribed with a six-character reign mark within a double-circle

Provenance

Sotheby’s New York, 15th September 2010, lot 243.

Condition

The rim has a restored chip of approx. 0.3 x 1 cm and two short hairline cracks of approx. 0.4 and 0.3 cm. There is also a minute underglaze dent of about 0.2 cm to the body of the mouthrim. The interior has an 'S'-shape hairline crack of approx. 0.5 cm which does not pass through to the exterior. The actual colour is quite similar to the catalogue illustration. There are also some typical enamel crackles and occasional iron spots.
