Condition

Under naked eyes, the painting appears in very good condition. It is on its original canvas. It is painted with a thin material which is visible especially in the sky (visible on the photography). Two small scratches are located above the donkey in the lower right hand part. Pineholes at the corners. At the reverse, two small patches are visible in the upper part of the canvas (trees). Under UV light, a few tiny retouches visible where the patches are located.

Catalogue Note

Hermann-David-Salomon Corrodi fit une carrière internationale comme peintre de paysages, voyageant à travers l’Europe, l’Afrique du Nord et le Proche Orient. En 1872 il étudia à Paris et il fut présenté à la famille royale d’Angleterre qui lui acheta plusieurs paysages. Il exposa régulièrement des paysages orientalistes, principalement des vues d’Egypte, de Turquie et de Palestine. Notre tableau est traditionnellement considéré comme une vue de Biskra en Algérie.
