Catalogue Note

Fairfield Porter’s daughter Katie recalls that, late in his life, Porter created a number of works showing the waves and beaches of the Atlantic Ocean near his house in Southampton, where he often walked on the beach with the family's golden retriever, Bruno. The present work is an oil study from the artist's sketchbook.
