Condition

maker's mark very clear, crisp engraving, minor wear commensurate with age but overall good condition.

Catalogue Note

Sir John Stonhouse, 3rd Bt. of Radley, Berkshire, succeeded to the title upon the death of his father about 1700. He, who was born about 1639, educated at Queen’s College, Oxford, and admitted to the Inner Temple in 1690, was MP for Berkshire from 1701 until his death in 1733. Sir John, who was Comptroller of the Household to Queen Anne in 1713 and 1714, married twice, first to Mary (d. 1705/06), daughter and heiress of Henry Mellish of Sanderstead, Surrey, and second in 1706 to Penelope, daughter of Sir Robert Dashwood, 1st Bt of Northbrooke, Oxfordshire.
