Description

  • TWO SNUFF BOXES WITH CONCEALED WATCHES
  • silvered gilt metal
  • lengths 70 mm and 85 mm
The first: silver gilt, late 19th century, of rectangular form, the lid opens to reveal the movement, lever escapement below a white enamel dial, Roman numerals, the plates engraved with scrolls all visible through a glazed shaped opening,  the box decorated  with scrolls over engine-turned ground • The second: circa 1740 and later, oval composed of covered compartments,  one concealing the timepiece, half moon shape movement with silver dial, black champlevé enamel, Roman numerals, the case engraved with geometric pattern

Condition

each with winder, the first ,good quality, and quite amusing in design, will run, however now would do well to be cleaned, dial with residue but appears to be unmarked, Revd Mr FH Faguy En Souvenir de Mme L.B. P Laure, 4 Decembre 1901 the second, runs, case with numerous dents, and wear to gilding, dial in good order box with patinated surface
