Relevant du corpus historique des premières statuettes yanda découvertes - collectées dans les années 1920-1940 par les Pères Croisiers du Vicariat de Bondo -, cette œuvre exprime de manière saisissante la force inhérente à l'esprit protecteur du culte du Mani, et l'inventivité plastique que le sculpteur se devait d'y exprimer (Burssens, 1962). A la modernité formelle d'un naturalisme réinventé s'ajoute ici la très grande ancienneté de la sculpture; la patine profonde témoignant des nombreuses sollicitations dont elle a été l'objet.
