Catalogue Note

A fine collection of photographs, including images by Aramco photographers Floyd Ohliger and Ilo "The Pirate" Battigelli, compiled by an employee of Saudi Aramco in the 1950s, documenting the expansion and growth of buildings and infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, especially in relation to Aramco and the oil industry, including ships, trucks, oil derricks, aeroplanes and new housing developments. The photographs also include images of the Saudi royal family, including HM King Abdul-Aziz Ibn Saud (d.1953) and HRH Crown Prince Saud and the king of Bahrain, together with views of the desert and industry in and around Dammam, Dhahran, Udhailiyah (built 1956), Jeddah and Hofuf. Also showing Aramco managers at work and at leisure and scenes of local life including fishermen and bedouin with camels, with a number of aerial photographs.
