Condition
Both paintings are less yellow and a little softer in tone than the catalogue illustrations suggest.Both paintings have an old stable relining (glue). No major damages are apparent. Both paint layers are generally sound, if abraded in some areas, e.g. in the background of the cobbler's shop, and subsequent retouchings can be made out with the naked eye in these areas. Both paint surfaces are under a yellowed and glossy varnish. Inspection under UV light reveals some additional old small scattered retouchings in the background in both pictures and some minimal strengthening in some of the figures.Offered in decorative gilt plaster and wood frames in good condition.
