Probablement destinée à un hall d'entrée d'hôtel particulier ou de bâtiment public, cette potence d'intérieur, par la qualité de son exécution et ses détails naturalistes, peut être rapprochée de l'oeuvre de Blaise Charlut (1715-1792), célèbre serrurier du Bordelais. 
Né à Pauillac, il reprend la forge familiale à La Réole où il réalise entre 1758 et 1779 son chantier le plus important pour les moines bénédictins du prieuré Saint-Pierre, dont on peut toujours admirer aujourd'hui les grilles d'entrée, balcons et rampes d'escalier. La clôture du choeur, ainsi que des pièces de mobilier religieux provenant de cette commande, sont maintenant visibles dans la cathédrale Saint-André de Bordeaux.
A Bordeaux, il exécute également en 1771 les ferroneries de l'hôtel de Verduzan.

Une rampe d'escalier en ferronerie attribuée à Blaise Charlut est passée en vente à Bordeaux, le 24 avril 2010, sous le lot 107 (étude Briscadieu).
