Condition

No lining. Some restoration throughout, particularly in light-colored silks. Some very dry areas deteriorating and open warps and splitting (not evident in catalogue photograph). Needs attention but can be very well restored. Beautiful design and quality.

Catalogue Note

The weaver's mark on the right selvage of the present tapestry appears under 'Indeterminate Marks' in Thompson (1906, no. 288) with the notation "Hercules and the Centaur (Vienna)", and is repeated in Göbel (1923, appendix of marks, p. 24).
