Description

  • Silk, wool, metal threads
  • Narrative Allegorical panel: 27cm. high, 190cm. wide; 10in., 6ft. 3in.; Floral border: 20cm. high, 153cm. wide; 8in., 5ft.
comprising of a narrative allegorical panel, finely woven in wool, silk and metal thread, with four compartments and a central armorial, the architectural arched surround incorporating text and numbers, Sebastianus P:Rex, and Luce 1,5 1-,5 XVI,; and a narrow tapestry panel, woven in wool and silk, incorporating small term figures, birds, fruit and flowers, on a dark blue ground, probably Dutch, mid 17th century (Qty 2)

Condition

Narrative Allegorical panel: with later rewoven sections and repairs in areas overall. Charming detailing to groups, especially the seated group at the table. The panel is lined with old red linen. It is interesting piece with charming details. Faded colouring, however balanced colour overall. In stable restored condition. Floral panel: Presently not lined. Colours vibrant and cheerful overall. Reduced width, evident as some of term on far right is missing, and there in a ater yellow selvedge to right hand vertical edge. Some repairs to ground and minor areas. Highly decorative panel.
