A rare Worcester coffee cup and saucer from the Lord Dudley service circa 1765-68

Description

  • Porcelain
  • diameter of saucer 12cm, height of cup 6.2cm
decorated in the workshop of James Giles, the powder blue ground reserved with fan-shaped panels painted with European figures of musicians and female dancers, small circular panels in between painted with colourful insects, a fruit spray inside the base of the cup and the centre of the saucer, the rims gilded with flower sprays and dentil borders,

Condition

Saucer: the underside has a hairline crack running from the rim for approx. 2.3cms. This is not visible on the decorated surface. The underside has some fire specking. Cup: there is a very shallow chip to the footrim approx. 2mm wide.
