The colours are fairly accurate in the catalogue illustration altough the overall tonality is lighter in the original. Only visible under very close inspection, a very light dot of oxidation is located 9,5cm from the upper edge and 44,5cm from the left edge. A minor wear to the canvas is located on the overlap of the upper right corner. This work is in excellent condition.

En 1970, l'année de Peinture acrylique blanche sur tissu rayé blanc et bleu, Daniel Buren est invité à participer à la VIème Exposition internationale au Guggenheim Museum à New York qui eut lieu en février 1971. Suspendue au centre de la rotonde du Guggenheim, la monumentale toile rayée alternativement de bandes blanches et bleues est censurée à la demande d'une minorité d'exposants dont Dan Flavin et Donald Judd et ce, malgré l'avis favorable de la majorité des autres participants. A lui seul, cet épisode mythique suffit à démonter l'extrême avant-gardisme du propos de Daniel Buren. Dans l'œuvre du Guggenheim qui «produisait le choc que produit la beauté» (Daniel Buren, in Daniel Buren Entrevue, Paris, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, 1987, p.35) comme dans Peinture acrylique sur tissu rayé blanc et bleu qui lui est contemporaine, la maîtrise de l'idée et le radicalisme de son expression débouchent sur des œuvres d'un esthétisme parfaitement iconique.
