Description
- Christian Wilhelm Ernst Dietrich
- The Holy Family in an interior with the Virgin sowing and Joseph woodworking
- signed and dated lower left: Dietricÿ: Aō 1746
- oil on panel
Condition
The actual painting is a lot softer and less red in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The single panel is sound and in good condition, and beveled on all sides. The paint layer is very well preserved, particularly the impasto in the highlights and draperies, and is under a slightly dirty layer of varnish. No major damages are apparent. Very few tiny scattered discoloured retouchings are visible, e.g. in the upper left corner, lower centre, and a tiny one in Mary's forehead. Under UV light a few tiny additional ones can be made out in Joseph's arm and red curtain.
Overall, the painting is in very good condition.
Offered in a plain wood frame in good condition. (MW)
