Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate. The catalogue illustration fails to fully convey the three-dimensionality and the kinetic movement of the raised white elements present in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition and in full working order. There are a few light isolated handling marks and several surface irregularities around the edges of the work. There are a few tiny surface nicks elsewhere to the extreme edges, including the extreme top left corner tip. There is a small surface abrasion to the centre of the lower edge, with associated minute specks of media loss. There is some light surface dirt, pale isolated media accretions and scattered fly spots in a few places on the white elements. Some light oxidation has occurred to the metal supports of the white elements.

Catalogue Note

The Museum Haus Lange in Krefeld, where Tinguely had a show in 1960, asked the artist to design a relief which could be made by the buyer of the catalogue supplement which was sold during the show. The supplement consisted of a plan and a certificate which was numbered and signed by Tinguely. 50 supplements were printed, 30 sold and 20 kept by the museum. From these plans sold, alone 16 were built under the supervision of Tinguely by Alfred Otto Müller, Cologne, in commission for the buyers of the plans via the museum. This is one of the kits that were not built at that time. It was constructed in 1984.
