Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate although the overall tonality is slightly richer and deeper, with the purple in the lower right quadrant tending more to cooler lavender purple in the original. The catalogue illustration does not fully convey the rich surface texture and impasto apparent in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. There is a small spot of paint loss to the white impasto at the centre of the upper half of the composition. In a few places to the composition, fine drying cracks, some with raised edges, are visible to thicker passages of pigment, with a few associated minute media losses. Two further tiny losses are visible at the centre of the right extreme edge and one to the right side of the lower extreme edge. There is a tiny rub mark towards the bottom of the right extreme edge and a further faint intermittent rub mark to the centre left on the extreme upper edge. Two minute media accretions are visible on close inspection: one approx. 10 cm. up from the centre right of the lower edge; the other to the stroke of yellow pigment adjacent to the upper part of the right extreme edge. The lower left extreme corner tip is very slightly rubbed and four tiny spots of wear are visible on very close inspection on the extreme upper edge. No restoration is apparent under ultraviolet light.
