CATALOGUE COMPARISON
The catalogue illustration is broadly representative.
PAINT SURFACE
The paint surface is dirty and may benefit from a light clean. There is evidence of a craquelure pattern particularly to the background upper right. This is stable and typical of a painting of this age.
ULTRAVIOLET
UV light reveals evidence of retouching to the background and to the rocks in the centre of the work. Some strengthening to the woman's dress, centre right and a small area of retouching to the branches, lower left. A thick uneven varnish prevents further reading.
FRAME
Held in an ornate plaster gilt frame in fair condition.
