Condition
STRUCTURE
The canvas has been relined and the structure is sound.
CATALOGUE ILLUSTRATION
The catalogue illustration is broadly representative however the sky and clouds are slightly warmer with pinker tones.
PAINT SURFACE
The paint surface is in good clean condition with a light, even varnish. There is evidence of a craquelure pattern typical of a work of this age.
ULTRAVIOLET
reveals retouching in the sky, upper right as well as retouching to frame abrasions in the upper right corner. Also retouching to a repair, 3cm longm in the same area. A few further scattered spots of infilling to craquelure in the sky. Some strengthening to the female rider's hat and to the pony's hind legs, lower left.
FRAME
Held in a plain plaster gilt frame in fair condition.

Catalogue Note
Arch Hall was a fine eighteenth-century house attributed to Sir Edward Lovett Pearce. Baldock was a founder member and later the President of the Sheffield Society of Artists.
