Description

  • Alfred Stieglitz, Editor
  • 'camera work: a photographic quarterly'
(New York: Alfred Stieglitz, 1903-17), the complete set of 50 Numbers, the Steichen Supplement, and the 2 Special Numbers in 50 volumes, illustrated with photogravures and halftones after photographs by ALFRED STIEGLITZ, EDWARD STEICHEN, PAUL STRAND, KARL STRUSS, ALVIN LANGDON COBURN, GERTRUDE KÄSEBIER, HEINRICH KÜHN, ANNE BRIGMAN, CLARENCE WHITE, and many others.  4to, original gray wrappers, contained in 25 custom-made contemporary linen clamshell boxes, each with a silver-stamped leather label on the spine (50 volumes in 25 boxes)

Condition

This well-maintained, complete set of Camera Work is in generally excellent condition. The plates are all in generally excellent condition. A few of the plates have very minor foxing and/or age-darkening in the margins, which is typical of plates from these volumes. Volume 42/43--The first plate in this volume, 'Vitality--Yvette Guilbert,' has patterned mold overall, creating a fogged effect on the plate. This is the only plate with this type of condition issues in the complete set. Each volume is individually wrapped in a mylar jacket. As is typical with issues of Camera Work, the covers of each volume have multiple chips, tears, and losses along the edges, and some are detached from the volume. Additionally, the backstrips of a few of the covers have partially or completely detached.
