Literature

Jewels of Chinese inspiration were highly in fashion in the 1920s. Strong colours, geometric lines together with pavé-set backgrounds were carateristic of Lacloche jewels of the time. For further information, please refer to David Bennett and Daniela Mascetti, Understanding Jewellery, Antique Collector's Club, Revised edition 2003, chapter seven.

Condition

Overall piece with signs of wear and scratches. Some damage to carved agate due to age and wear, one crack to back of the plaque. Trace of glue around several diamonds. Left leg subsequently added. Coral bead necklace would improve from restringing. With comprehension for the age and fragility of the used materials the condition of the piece is still remarkable. For a similar pendant necklace, set in Lapis and by Lacloche, please refer to Sotheby's Geneva, 18 November 1992, lot 261.
