Sotheby's Asia

W e proudly present our new Asia flagship – Sotheby's Maison. Located at the beating heart of Hong Kong, the Maison offers a portal to a world of boundless inspiration and discovery – a journey from pre-history to present day, across more than 20 categories spanning all continents and artistic endeavours.

This month, the flagship season of Chinese art continues. Fine Classical Chinese Paintings on 19 November (exhibition: ground floor, 15-18 November) offers masterworks of Chinese painting and calligraphy, encompassing a variety of styles from across centuries. These fine works emphasise the importance of classical artistic styles, underlining the connection between poetry, calligraphy, painting, and the artist’s seal.

From 18-25 November (last day until 2:00pm only), Fine Chinese Paintings will be exhibited across our first floor salons at Sotheby’s Maison offering works by some of the most sought after modern Chinese artists. The live auction will take place on 25 November.

The season will conclude with Chinese Works of Art, presented across two live auctions. Chinese Art on 26 November presents a selection of masterpieces and a stellar line-up of some of the rarest and most important works of art – from exquisite palm-sized objects to monumental artefacts – showcasing the sheer breadth and depth of thousands of years of Chinese art history. On the same day, the unique celadon-ground yangcai ‘hunting scene’ conjoined and reticulated vase with seal mark and period of Qianlong will go under the hammer offered in a single-lot auction. The vase is said to be the crowning achievement of Tang Ying’s career, completed in the autumn of 1754 and likely one of the last significant pieces created during his tenure.

Stay tuned for further announcements of events in Hong Kong and across Asia.
